Disinfection & Sterilization Protocols

At Brookswood Denture Clinic, we understand that with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic our patients may be worried about the methods we use in our office to ensure their safety. The health and safety of our patients has always been a primary concern.

We use hospital-level sterilization and disinfection procedures, including the use of an autoclave, to eliminate all traces of bacteria and viruses from dental instruments and hard surfaces to prevent the potential spread of pathogens.

The process of keeping instruments clean and disposing of potential infection sources is known as dental sterilization.  We achieve this high level of sterilization and disinfection by following the asepsis regulations set out by the College of Denturists of British Columbia.

Dental instruments are broken into three categories – Critical (exposed to blood and bone), Semi-Critical (contact with oral tissue) and Non-Critical (contact with intact skin).  In our denture clinic, we use semi-critical and non-critical dental instruments due to the nature of our profession.

The methods we use to ensure the removal of viruses and bacterial from surfaces and instruments are as follows:

1. All dental instruments are autoclaved – impression trays, mouth mirrors, small hand tools and cutting burs are fully sterilized in a high heat pressure chamber to completely eliminate all bacteria and viruses.

2. Surface decontamination with hospital grade disinfectant is used on dental chairs, dental lights, countertops, mixing bowls, doorknobs and other hard surfaces before and after each patient appointment.

3. Proper personal protective equipment such as masks, face shields, and gloves are worn by staff to ensure that the spread of potential pathogens is reduced.

Brookswood Denture Clinic strives to make every patient feel comfortable and secure that their well being is held in the highest regard.  We make every attempt to protect our patients from the potential spread of pathogens by using the highest level of sterilization & disinfection techniques available to us.

There may be further changes made to our protocols as the regulations regarding the prevention of Covid-19 outbreaks are developed by the provincial health authority and the College of Denturists of BC. You can rest assured that Brookswood Denture Clinic will continue to take every possible precaution to ensure your health and safety and that of our staff.  If you have any questions or concerns please let us know.

We are celebrating 30 years of Creating Beautiful Smiles.
